What Will The Weather Be? Another Useful Side Benefit Of Reading AR Blogs

Will it be a washout weekend?

I have anxiously read the reports of my fellow East Coast Active Rain Friends some of whom have talked of two days of rain from the remains of some hurricane that decided to weave it's way into our lives.  I have also kept an eye on the weather forecasts of several weather outlets (you see every expert has a slightly different take on this).  I am more concerned than usual with the possibility of a major rain situation because we will be reenacting this weekend.  That means camping in canvas tents without sewn in floors.  It means trying to keep a fire going all weekend for morning coffee, boiling water to clean muskets, cooking meals, and staying warm and enjoying company at night.  It is not so fun in the rain!

Well the forecasters are predicting some showers but not a complete rainy weekend and Sunday is supposed to be nice.  I hope that someone is not paying them off to promote tourism or something.  This is a matter of comfort people.  Please be right and make those showers brief if they have to come at all. Thanks for all the weather updates I have been finding through your Active Rain blogs.  Between them and the forecasts we may have a chance of staying relatively dry or at least not come home looking like drowned rats.  I will let you know how it goes.

Enjoy your weekend whatever you are doing, rain or shine!  Have a wonderful Labor Day.

Don't Let Fear Stop You From Working Towards Home Ownership!

Are you like many people I have spoken with who are looking for a way to own their own home?  Perhaps you have very little money to put down on a house or your credit is in a bad way. One of the worst things you can do is to sit there and say there is no way out of this mess.  Fear of being told you can't qualify for a loan stops you from even asking.  Well if you are one of those people who is allowing fear to stop them you will never learn the many ways you might get past these difficulties and into a home of your own.

I work with people all the time who are not ready to buy.  I am constantly searching for programs and partners for these potential clients to help them realize their goals.  There is no magic answer that will put you in a house tomorrow but if you are willing to work at it you can realize your dream.  Give me a call or an email and I will help you to get started.  If you are from another area of the state or country I will put you in touch with an agent who will help you there.

One program that may help some of you in New York, Vermont, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, and Puerto Rico.is an organization that was originally developed to help migrant and seasonal farm workers. Rural Opportunities Incorporated was founded in 1969 and has developed many programs to help families of low to moderate income in the following categories:

Adult Training & Employment
Child and Family Development Programs
Economic Development
Emergency and Supportive Services
Health and Safety
Housing Services
Property Management
Real Estate Development
Resident Services
Volunteer Initiatives
Youth Education and Training

In my area of the Greater Hudson Valley of New York there are free information sessions on the services available to help families with home purchase in Middletown and Newburgh NY.  The program offers one on one and group education session on banking, budgeting and credit issues.  Money management classes help participants to work towards financial success.  There is a matched savings program which helps to provide down payment and closing money. They also provide support for the families after they purchase the house to help them avoid losing the house.  These programs are available to individuals who want to change their lives.  Over the past 15 years this program has helped more than 2000 families to buy their first house.  Many of the families were of low income and about 30% were single parent households.

So don't let the Fear of Hearing NO stop you.  Take control your future by making a call that will help you find a way to make it happen.  You need to find someone to help you help yourself.

Mark Your Days Off On The Calendar Minisink Valley Central School District Parents!

One of the first things I like to do as a new school year begins is to mark up my calendar and scheduler for the days that the children have off from school.  Of course there can be changes during the year but at least it avoids being clueless.  For parents with young children who need to have childcare available on days when school is not in session it is essential to be ready for those oddball days that come up like Superintendents Conference Days or Staff Development Days that don't follow with the standard holiday breaks that your school follows.

For your convenience I am displaying the school year calendar
for the Minisink Valley Central School District here.  Take a minute this morning to get all the dates down so you won't be surprised.  (I have even heard of children who might, on occasion, try to convince a parent that there is no school on a day when there is, of course I never understood how they really thought that would work, LOL)  Please note that your child's school may have additional half days for parent conferences and other testing days so it is important to check those backpacks for updates on additional days off.

A New School Year Brings A New Superintendent For The Pine Bush Central School District

On August 1, 2008 the Pine Bush Central School District appointed a new Superintendent, Philip Steinberg.  Mr Stienburgh started his career as a teacher in Flushing High School and after being laid off during the budget cuts of the 1970's he went into private business for 25 years.  In 2000, he decided to reenter the educational realm and landed a job as a Vice Principal in a troubled Brooklyn High School.  He then went on to become a Principal at IS 218 where he turned the school around and got things done so that the kids there could succeed.  In 2005 he became a Superintendent in charge of 15 schools in Queens and was most recently the Executive Officer for Instruction/Superintendent for New York City Department of Education, overseeing 21 schools, 60 administrators and 1,650 teachers.  He begins work here on Tuesday September 1, 2008.

His extensive background in business and education will bring a fresh approach to our district.  I believe that the experience outside of the academic world is as valuable as the time he has spent working in the classroom and in administrative positions.  Our district looks forward to the continued excellence of our schools under his leadership.

Welcome to the District Mr. Steinburgh and
Welcome Back to School for All the Staff and Students of the
Pine Bush Central School District.

If you are looking for a new place to call home check out the Pine Bush Central School District's seven townships.  There are so many educational opportunities for children here and I am sure that this new superintendent will bring more innovative ideas to keep making it better.

A Little Road Trip In a Classic Car

Yesterday morning my husband Dan was complaining that some of the toys in our garage (the two classic cars that he and my son own) were not being driven enough. I said so let's go for a ride.  Simple enough and especially welcome because I was tired and did not want to do anything about cleaning or finishing the laundry!

I finished up with a few real estate details, he got the car ready, and in the early afternoon we took off in our 1963 Barracuda.  He randomly choose a route up through Ellenville NY in Ulster County then we decided to follow Route 55 up the mountains to Route 55A.  We found Slide Mountain Wilderness Area off of Route 28.  We drove past the camping areas of Peekamoose Table Mountain Trail area and found this wonderful waterfall.

Enjoy!
