Last night I had the pleasure of meeting with many future brides and grooms at a Bridal Fair. I was there promoting the idea of using your wedding as a way to get a down payment on your first home. The average shower and wedding gifts received by couples in this area is up to around $8000. That is enough for the down payment on a starter home of around $200000. With the interest rates low and inventory high it is a great time to start your married life as homeowners.
Many of the couples were excited about the idea of harnessing the good will of their friends and family into giving gifts of cash toward the down payment fund but they said they felt uncomfortable asking for it. I came home and worked up an insert for the shower and wedding invitations that I think is tasteful and would be viewed as a positive step by most who read it. What do you think?

We Want To Thank You For Being
A Part Of Our Wedding.
You may have noticed that we did not include
Gift Registry information with your invitation.
This was done because we have decided to
"Register" For A Home Of Our Own.

You see we are asking all our dear friends and relatives to help us out
by contributing whatever they would normally spend on a gift towards
the down payment on a starter home for us.
We are looking forward to inviting you to
Our New Home
to celebrate again in the near future!
If you or someone you know is getting married and would like to explore the possibility of home ownership please let me know. I work in the Greater Hudson Valley of NY but I can help you find an agent who will help you wherever you choose to start your lives together. I urge you to consider this option over a gift registry that will bring you a bunch of things you may rarely if ever use.
Congratulations to you whatever option you choose.
I wish you a wonderful future together!

Wow Paddy, This sounds like a great Idea...
Thanks Michael. I hope that this is helpful to the engaged couples out there
In my previous life I was a Wedding DJ for 18 years and this is a great idea. My 2nd year in the business, this is where I got a lot of my business from, but your idea is awesome!
Thank you Todd. We are actually closing our first "bridal home" with someone we met at a show last fall next week. It does work and it is exciting.
Paddy - What a fabulous idea! Oh - we need to chat via email about this. I have some questions. Jess
Thank you Jess. I hope I was able to help you. Let me know how you make out!
I think this is tasteful and a great idea. Why load up on things to put in a house when you don't even have the house?
So true Sue J. More stuff you will end up trying to get rid of when you have the organizer in right???
Paddy, If that isn't creative, I don't know what is...it's a wonderful way to ask and SO much better then another toaster!
Thank you Carole. I agree and wish more young people would take the giant step towards a more secure future with some savings toward a home rather than the china they might use once a year.
Paddy, great idea! I have heard of wedding registries, why not this? They could even start a bank account and have people deposit it directly into this. The banks should take note and get on the band wagon!
I am doing another Fair today and have made up cards to hand out with this on one side and my contact information on the other. I hope it helps. Thanks and I agree Cristal
