I was with my accountant yesterday and learned something totally mind blowing! He had done the taxes for at least 6 first time home buyers who had no idea about the $8000 Tax Credit that is currently available to them. Are you kidding me???? Someone out here is not doing their job and I think that someone is our real estate community!
This was one small accounting firm in a small town. If we take those statistics and multiply them by all the accounting firms and tax prep services there must be thousands of people who have bought without knowledge of this incentive. If we realize that many more people are out there who could and would take advantage of the current market, low mortgage interest rates, and all the other advantages of home ownership if they were aware of this $8000 bonus then we really have to keep shouting it from the rooftops.
To many real estate industry professionals, the excitement of the $8000 incentive may be old news but there are way too many potential home buyers out there who have no idea. Are you telling every potential client that it may be available to them? Are you mentioning it in your daily conversations with your friends and family? Are you failing to spread the word until it is heard?

First and foremost Ithink I would look around for a new accountant. If hes not up on changes you could be paying too much in tax. I see clients regularly that don't know either.
Laura Wow Did I give the impression that my accountant did not know? No he is excellent but he was surprized by the number of people who are buying homes who have no idea that they can get the credit. I think there are a lot of potential buyers who need to be told.
Paddy, I know you have been a constant reminder to buyers about this tax credit, as have several of us, looks like we need to keep shouting it out to get the word out all year. We can sound like a broken record to some, but if a few hear it from us the first time, at least they heard it. Good job.
Thanks Gail. If one extra person learns about this from me and you then it is worth it. I guess the rest of you will have to listen to the broken record (some of our readers don't know what a record is Gail, LOL!!!)
Paddy - I am amazed at how many agents have no clue, or do not share with their clients, about the programs and incentives out there right now. In today's market you would think that they would want to use all the clubs in their bag.
You are sooo right Mike. The buyer needs to be informed of everything there is. It will help them make a decision to move forward.
I am with the rest of your commentors---Why not tell. I hope everyone educates themselves on this tax credit. It would help us all.
Shelton
I wonder why people do not myself Shelton. It is unbelievable that an agent would not nform their buyers of the possible credit.
Paddy, I was amazed to read this....they surely must have known and it would be a help in selling to their clients. Not to mention that the accountants should have known as well!
This is a good program for first time buyers... we should certainly be working to get the message out! Great reminder, Paddy.
I think that sometimes agents assume that the buyers know it because we hear it all the time Carole. We just need to remember that the buying public does not hear it every day.
Absolutely Jesse. I am afraid we will have a bunch of unhappy campers in Novemeber when they find out that they can't close in time to get it.
Paddy,
We have to Spread the Word!! Talk about it everywhere!
This weekend I went shopping and I talked about it everywhere I went!
good job Connie. I am surprised by the number of people who just don't know aren't you?
