Lucky Me! I live in a beautiful area. Many people visit the Greater Hudson Valley and the Catskill Region every year just to see what I can see everyday. There is so much to see and do here. We have hiking, biking, trail riding, lakes, rivers, small villages with crafts and festivals to share, cities with museums and cultural
events. You can have this all with a short commute to New York City.
If you have never visited this area and plan to come up some weekend. check out my To Do Orange County NY posts on most every Saturday or Sunday to find some great activities for your weekend visits or stuff to do if you find yourself at home here in the area with nothing to do. Other local resources for fun events in my neck of the woods include each of the three counties' tourism sites, Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster (Click on the county name to access the site). Here you will find information on local attractions, events, and so much more.

One resource for inspiration for a weekend visit can be found at the Shawangunk Mountain Regional Partnership website. This organization manages the 88 mile loop of roadway defines an area that has been designated by New York State as a Scenic Byway. What a beautiful brochure and web site they have created to celebrate the region. Check out the site here and you will see some more awesome places to visit.
Hope to see you up here in my neck of the woods sometime soon. This is a wonderful area to consider for a full time or weekend residence if you work in the New York City metropolitan area. Many of New York's Finest make this area home. I work as a Real Estate Buyer's agent in the Greater Hudson Valley. I would be happy to assist you in your search for a place of your own. I must agree - you live in a wonderful area Paddy that has both beauty and tons of things to do! You can count on a phone call from me if I am up your way - there is NO ONE else I would call for the straight scoop!
Informative, and your enthusiasm for your area is contagious. The photos actually look a lot like here, and I'm on the opposite coast.
As a native New Yorker living and working in Manhattan, I too appreciate the beauty of the Catskills and Hudson Valley region. We seem to have it all in NY.
The insanity of Manhattan and yet the peaceful beauty of Upstate NY helps to balance out my more than busy life. Just the fall foliage in NY alone is enough to knock your socks off. If any AR members have never been in NY, come on over up or down, we have a lot to offer! Thanks Paddy for reminding me to appreciate our wonderful State.
Paddy you sure as heck do live in a beautiful alrea!! The one thing I love about AR is learning/seeing other markets! Thanks for always being so positive!

Paddy, You do have a beautiful area...It's very different from here and the proximity to other places from you is wonderful. I loved going up to visit New Paltz and wanted to get to Woodstock this year but it wasn't in the cards.
You better call Leesa. I wish I was able to make ReBar NC but can't get the time away right now.
Just checked out your neck of the woods Li and it is beautiful there. Thanks for stopping by at mine.
Hi Mercedes. We do have a lot. Give me a call if you get up this way.
Thanks for reading my Blog Greg and for being you!
:-) Thanks for the feature C
When you coming up here Carole? We are waiting to see you and your daughter before the leaves all fall.
Paddy - terrific photos, you are certainly a fine ambassador for your area, as well as Active Rain.
Thanks Mike. Back at you!
Looking forward to seeing you when I get back. We have to plan an OCC outing with Josef and Sheldon. The wee people would love that. :-)
Absolutely C. No GPS??? Oh man you must be beside yourself!
I'm originally from NY. Maybe one day i may have to take a trip there. Look great.
