Don't Let Fear Stop You From Working Towards Home Ownership!

Are you like many people I have spoken with who are looking for a way to own their own home?  Perhaps you have very little money to put down on a house or your credit is in a bad way. One of the worst things you can do is to sit there and say there is no way out of this mess.  Fear of being told you can't qualify for a loan stops you from even asking.  Well if you are one of those people who is allowing fear to stop them you will never learn the many ways you might get past these difficulties and into a home of your own.

One program that may help some of you in New York, Vermont, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, and Puerto Rico.is an organization that was originally developed to help migrant and seasonal farm workers. Rural Opportunities Incorporated was founded in 1969 and has developed many programs to help families of low to moderate income in the following categories:

Adult Training & Employment
Child and Family Development Programs
Economic Development
Emergency and Supportive Services
Health and Safety
Housing Services
Property Management
Real Estate Development
Resident Services
Volunteer Initiatives
Youth Education and Training

In my area of the Greater Hudson Valley of New York there are free information sessions on the services available to help families with home purchase in Middletown and Newburgh NY.  The program offers one on one and group education session on banking, budgeting and credit issues.  Money management classes help participants to work towards financial success.  There is a matched savings program which helps to provide down payment and closing money. They also provide support for the families after they purchase the house to help them avoid losing the house.  These programs are available to individuals who want to change their lives.  Over the past 15 years this program has helped more than 2000 families to buy their first house.  Many of the families were of low income and about 30% were single parent households.  

So don't let the Fear of Hearing NO stop you.  Take control your future by making a call that will help you find a way to make it happen.  You need to find someone to help you help yourself.

Paddy - too many people don't even try because they either fear they will be rejected or believe they can't qualify. Nothing tried, nothing gained, nothing lost. In this case, if they try they have a lot to gain but certainly nothing to lose.

Well said Mike.  Fear can paralyze and is the biggest obstacle in some cases.

Paddy- This is great information- Another great program is through the USDA- The Rural Development plan- http://eligibility.sc.egov.usda.gov/eligibility/welcomeAction.do We find that much of Orange and Ulster Counties are eligible.

Morning Paddy,

Great information, thanks for the post. Younger first time home buyers are more reluctant then ever to come forward because of all the news of foreclosures and repo's. There is a real need to re-educate the masses.
