I
have been reading about an effort by Orange County Department of Social
Services to help place older children and teens in adoptive
homes. The new website at Adopt
Orange County New York displays the photos and
stories of young people who are available for adoption. They
had an exhibit at The Galleria at Crystal Run in Middletown this
weekend that featured the photos of 32 children who have been freed for
adoption after being in the foster care system. Such displays
in 2005 and 2006 and was able to place 40% of the children featured
into permanent homes. They also raised awareness for the
need for foster care homes and found quite a few new foster care
families through the effort.
What a great opportunity for a couple who might be wishing to share
their home and hearts with a child but not able to take on the care of
an infant or young child. I urge my Orange County NY readers
to consider this opportunity for yourselves. Spend some time at the
website and give them a call. What greater gift for the
holiday season than to offer a place in your family to a child who is
looking for a place to call their own.
