The School Is Calling - How Cool Is This?

Wow, the coolest thing just happened.  I got a call on both my home phone Home Phoneand my cell phone cell phonefrom the Pine Bush Central School District . Now normally you might be concerned when a school calls you.  Is your child sick?  Is your child in trouble?  But this call was sent to let me know that all after school activities were canceled due to the expected icy conditions later this afternoon and evening.

I happened to see our new superintendent, Philip Stienberg at a meeting for our district's Focus on Youth Initiative yesterday and he was explaining a new notification system that he was able to contract for the district to make notification on school closings and other things more efficient.  The service is activated by a call from Mr. Stienberg and within minutes a call goes out to a specified list of phone numbers which can include all parent's home and cell phones, emergency notification phones for children, staff, specific students or faculty from any individual school or even a team within the school.

Wow, no more wondering!  No more phone chains!  No more surprises!

Pine Bush Central School District is in for more wonderful changes with this superintendent in charge.  I think we have the right man at the right time.  With the coming budget crunch that the whole state is facing; Mr. Stienberg is encouraging our school administration to think outside the box to make things work more efficiently and to keep giving our children a well rounded education in spite of these budget shortfalls.  I look forward to the future with hope that we will be able to maintain all the great programs that our children have within this district.  We will all need to work together though help our community through this crisis but I believe we can do it.

If you are looking to move to a community that cares about what's best for children then you may want to consider one of the towns that are part of the district.  If you would like to know more about real estate opportunities in or around the Pine Bush area of the Greater Hudson Valley please give me a call or send an email.  I would love to help you find your way home.

Funny timing - I got a call (recorded) yesterday that the fire alarm went off and the police and fire trucks came to my daughters school - there was an issue with the fire alarm wiring. Apparently they didn't want kids talking about it and parents freakin' out.

You guys and your "name" calling haha - funny.

Paddy, Congratulations on getting the right person to put this in place.  We don't have it and I believe it should be mandatory in our school systems.

Paddy, Cool! I can imagine with large school districts information distribution can really get to be a mess. It sounds as if your district has it down pat...

~~~~ Merry Christmas ~~~
Hey Steve, That was a great call on the part of the school.  We used to get notes home the day after something happened which is not helpful if someone is panicing.  Glad we could make you laugh!
I agree Carole.  It is long overdue.  Come to think of it, our new Superintendant came for Long Island.  Maybe he could talk to some of the people down there to let them know what he is doing here.
Thank you Michael.  I think this new guy is going to work out great.  Merry Christmas to you too.
We have a similar system for my children's school district. I get an automated phone call telling of school closings, early closings, etc. but this year they have stepped up the program to include alerting us if anything out of the ordinary happens at the school - an emergency that involved police or an ambulance, a school lock-down because of a situation in the community that warranted keeping the children inside the building so that they would be safe - things like that.  It is so refreshing to hear about things as they happen at the school instead of flipping through the news stations to try to figure out what's going on.
Of course, it doesn't help when you ask your kids what happened at school today and they respond "I dunno."
Paddy~Seminole County schools in Central Florida offer this same type of service...we even get calls to tell us when report cards are being sent home so that we can our teens for them on the day that they are due! I love that!!
Paddy - great recognition of the people in you school district and the improvements made. This kind of minutia is terrific information to provide you clients/customers.
Thanks for sopping by Janice.
I can't agree more Renee.  Also helps to avoid rumors running rampent through town.\
I will have to pass that tip on to the administration LaShown.
I hope it helps them Mike and I hope it helps people decide that this might be the palce for them.
Hi The only problem we have with this is that our new phone number belonged to someone who went to a different school last year from the one my daughter goes to.  We get calls all the time updating info for a school that no one in the family attends.
Paddy, Cool system.  I wish they had something like that when my kids were in school.  Sure take the hassle out of calling.
Oh man Stacey-Ann.  You should try to call the school and let them know they have the wrong number.  It can be changed in the system.
I know Bob.  It is great!
